DevConnect, the most comprehensive global event of the Ethereum ecosystem in 2023, took place in Istanbul during the week of November 13-19.
The first gathering spot of DevConnect Istanbul week was the Istanbul Congress Center and the ETH Day event. The day started with Vitalik Buterin’s talk titled “Ethereum in 30 Minutes”, followed by parallel sessions featuring other speakers and workshops. Throughout the week, more than 3,500 participants from the Ethereum ecosystem and global communities came together at DevConnect Cowork. Attendees participated in over 70 industry-focused events organized by independent teams within the Ethereum community, as well as nearly 200 side events and networking meetups.
During this intense DevConnect week, we, as Paribu Hub, organized the d:pact conference in collaboration with Merkezsiz.
What is d:pact?
d:pact is a project we launched in early 2023 in collaboration with Merkezsiz to explore how social, cultural, and ecological issues intersect with Web3 and to bring professionals working in these areas together. It initially started as a series of community meetups and podcasts. However, during DevConnect Istanbul week, d:pact evolved into an international conference in partnership with Token Engineering Academy, Regens Unite, and Funding the Commons.
What was discussed?
The event kicked off on November 15 with an opening panel at YapıKredi Bomontiada, followed by a keynote presentation by Marek Olszewski from Celo titled “Accelerating the ReFi Movement with Ultragreen Money,” where he discussed the real-world impact of projects within the Celo ecosystem.
In the panel “The Future of Decentralized Social,” moderated by Maggie Love from SheFi, we hosted Stani Kulechov, the Founder of Aave.
Another panel, “Navigating the Turkish Crypto and Blockchain Landscape,” featured our colleagues from Paribu, Semih Sercan Erkul and Nergis Nurcan Karababa, who shared insights on the trends and developments in Turkey’s crypto and blockchain ecosystem.
The final session of the day was presented by Mark Tyneway, Co-founder of Optimism, where he introduced the retroPGF mechanism, aiming to balance impact and profit.
At d:pact, which we organized with Merkezsiz, in addition to the main stage sessions throughout the day, we also held side sessions and workshops in two additional halls. Together with our content partners, we covered topics such as token engineering, regenerative movements, impact finance methods, and evaluation frameworks. With more than 40 speakers, we aimed to explore social, cultural, and ecological issues and their intersections with Web3 and blockchain.
Throughout the week, it was a valuable experience for all of us to engage with hundreds of companies and representatives developing products within the Ethereum ecosystem, along with developers, investors, and technology enthusiasts, and to be a part of this journey with d:pact.
